I am very funny about music. I love it so much that I can't stand when people abuse it. ItThere are many emcees that come and go. There are probably some great ones that will never be heard by the masses. When I hear great music, I go hard for it. I wanna share it with everyone and treat their ears to a musical blessing. I will download or purchase it to have for my own listening pleasure. If it makes it to my mp3 player or if I play it on my radio show, then that means that song may have a special meaning to me. Like I said I'm passionate about music!
I recently attended Noisemakers hosted by Peter Rosenberg. On this day he interviewed Phonte and 9th Wonder. It was great to see them together again especially since they are in my top 5 list of great hip-hop groups and lyricist. At the end they had a freestyle cypher from emcees that were in the building. Skyzoo, Actual Proof, Toure, Mickey Factz, and Don Will. One mc that stood out to me was a female by the name of Rapsody who hails from North Carolina. She spit some words and hung tight with the fellas. I immediately went home and found some of her music and videos. I love the way she spits that real hip-hop flava. Never heard her say a word about droppin it low or showing skin. I don't even care that she is a female, she just had a flava that showed that she is in this game for the love of hip-hop. Don't get me wrong though, I do rep for my females hard. Being a "female" dj is easier that it was years ago, but dudes still look at you like you are an alien. It doesn't hurt either that many of her joints are produced by 9th Wonder, who is one of my fave producers also!
All Im saying is that I want you to take some time out of your day and find some new music, attend showcases, read blogs or whatever.
